Overview of Week 4

This was a big week in the CFL. With more drama from Calvetti and his team, there are rumors of a new team that go by the name of 'Tom's Snow Plowing.' Jack Bonner, former Loyola quarterback is looking to make a CFL debut this upcoming Wednesday. In news from the weekend, Morrissey Law lost player Kurt Karis to foot injury. They will be replacing him with skilled Fillipino Phenom Paolo Manalo. Wild Wings took a win from Team Nike 15-11, to compete for first with Nike and M. Law. M. Law beat Tom's Snow plowing in an easy, rainy, messy 9 point event. Keep updated on the site for more news on the Goon Squad situation.

Gion Poised to Make Return

Veteran Paul Gion will return to the Nike starting lineup Sunday vs. the Goon Squad. The 6'2'', 175 pound WR/DB suffered a severe concussion at football practice a few weeks back. "He passed the concussion test so he should be good to go." says long time GBN trainer Colleen. Paul is confident he will pick up where he left off on the offensive side of the ball. "It's been really hard watching my team from the sidelines. I'm excited to get back out there with my boys."

Calvetti and the Goon Squad faced with Doubt

Calvetti, Fong, and Injured Costa Lillios have been faced with criticism and doubt within the teams abilities this past week. With Joey Calvetti talking up a big game and not necessarily following through, this Sunday is a big deciding factor in where their fate lies. With an injured Costa Lillios, Calvetti tried to get Nick Cox but violated a Crestwood law in a team can only consist of the class of 2013. Brett Snyder is a possible QB replacement and maybe we will see Fong playing receiver in the near future, we do not know.

Goon Squad walks away with a win

Joey Calvetti, and the boys walk away with a big W for this week. They faced the Dillon Panthers who are a similar type team, and it was a similar type game. Head to head long deep balls, touchdown after touchdown. It was the few big stops late that gave the edge over the Panthers. Both teams looked very athletic and swell, just the little experience The Goon Squad had, and the organized play gave them more opportunities for first downs and touchdowns. The Panthers do look promising though, and I would not count this 0-2 team out of the playoffs. Jack Sullivan is arguably one of the top receivers in the league.

Select over Wild Wings 17-15.

The long awaited rematch began this Sunday, and as always, was a very fiery competitive overtime event. Select's stack pick offense worked well against the defense confusing to gain an early lead in the beginning of the ballgame. The Wild Wing offense was on tap with scoring consistently as well as Select. The whole game was a back and fourth touchdown fest, until overtime when things went into Select's favor. Big overtime mistakes by quarterback Jack McCarthy caused a pass interference and an interception, making Select's game easier. One of McCarthy's poorer performances says sideline reporter Sinead W. Great offensive planning by Select, and on the field hustle by McElvain made the difference in this one. Both teams are 1-1.

Week 1, In the Books

With a successful week 1, the CFL senior season is officially underway! First game on Saturday took place, with both new teams playing; Dillon Panthers and CYO. CYO took the win 15-13 in a close game. Reports from Charlie McElvain state that Karis was just too much for Dillon to handle. McElvain also added that Morrissey and Bond split time at the QB position, and Dilllon's Quarterbacks switched between Kaplan and Sullivan. McElvain notes that these will both be two teams that will be tough to beat this season.

The opener between Afrika Select and Team Nike took place this past Sunday, and Team Nike came out on top, 15-12. The loss of Zach Hamer has really impacted this Afrika Select team and showed on the field, but still a good performance by Afrika Select. Select was on top out of the get go, but the Nike powerhouse offense took over slowly throughout the game. Precision passing by Cody Bolan, and solid route running by Senft and Gion made the real difference. Both teams looking good.

The last game of the day was played at 3, between the Goon Squad and The Buffalo Wild Wings. The Wild Wings took an early lead and stuck with it throughout the entire game. Later after half the Goon Squad sprouted a come back, but the Wild Wings pulled themselves together and gained back their lead. Wild wings won 15-11.

Senior Season Underway!

With three days until the regular season, the fans have been chitter-chattering for the long awaited Senior season. Now with two new teams, the CFL is bigger and more talent packed than ever. The CYO consists of CFL free agent Pat Morrissey, Rookie Dennis Bond, and their most hyped up toy Kurtis Karis. They are really unpredictable from a standpoint right now, cannot wait to see the team play. The second team added is the Dillon Panthers who aren't filled with MVP status, but look to be winning a good amount of games. With an original CFL veteran coming back, Jack Sullivan, this will add a threat to teams secondaries. This guy just keeps getting better as he ages. He can play any position, good hands, fast, and is creative on the field. Rookie Josh Kaplan is expected to be playing some quarterback on Milton Ave this year, and from last year exhibition he looks like a promising attribute to the Panthers. Last but very not least is receiver Jacob Townsend, and truth be told he could argueabely have the best hands in the league next to Tommy Senft. He has experience in school football, and in the CFL as well, and can make quick cuts and if it touches his hand it's a caught ball. The four teams from last year remain the same except for Afrika Select's Zach Hamer is sidelined with a shoulder injury, but I think people are going to think twice before they talk about the defending champs. The journey begins now. The first week begins now. The pin begins now.
